My Kegu Dream, My Ceramics Dream

On the morning of May 27, 2026, the first rays of sunlight fell upon the Zibo International Convention and Exhibition Center. This “Northern Capital of Ceramics" once again opened its arms to the world. The three-day 2026 China (Zibo) International Advanced Ceramics Industry Exhibition, themed “Ceramics Enlighten the Future, Materials Gather in Zibo," grandly commenced on this land that carries 5,000 years of kiln civilization.

May in Zibo brings waves of heat mixed with the lingering warmth of kilns. Walking through the spacious exhibition hall, the scorching light pierced through the glass dome and landed precisely on delicate electronic ceramic exhibits. The whiteness of zirconia, the matte finish of silicon nitride, the sharp reflections from precision machining equipment—these cold, hard ceramic materials somehow took on a warm, gentle texture.

My journey into ceramics began in 2020.

That year, as a student of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology (SUST), I first walked into the School of Materials Science and Engineering. In the ceramic process laboratory, I stared blankly at a ball mill. My teacher said: “Ceramics are not just pots and tiles—they are high-end materials that can go to space and deep into the earth." I didn’t fully understand then. I only knew the daily routine of sample preparation, sintering, and testing, occasionally frustrated by a cracked substrate. Years later, I realized that those seemingly tedious lab sessions had already planted a seed deep in my heart.

On May 27, 2026, standing as a member of Kegu in front of the Zibo International Convention and Exhibition Center, looking at the theme banner “Ceramics Enlighten the Future, Materials Gather in Zibo" glowing in the morning light, an indescribable excitement surged within me.

This exhibition brought together nearly 300 advanced ceramics enterprises from home and abroad, showcasing the latest achievements in new energy, electronics, aerospace, biomedicine, and more. Walking through the hall felt like flipping through an encyclopedia of advanced ceramics—structural ceramics, functional ceramics, raw materials, precision equipment, testing instruments, powder processing… a dazzling array.

I met several alumni from SUST. One senior, who graduated in 2005 with a degree in Materials Chemistry, had already become a corporate executive. Learning that we shared the same major and that he was among the first graduating class of that program brought us closer instantly. During the exhibition, we talked about our old days at the university. In fact, SUST’s connection to ceramics runs deep—in Zibo, an alumni association has been established for years, and SUST alumni are rooted in every corner of the ceramics industry.

The industry’s enthusiasm at the exhibition exceeded expectations. The Kegu booth attracted a steady stream of visitors. What impressed me most were inquiries about grinding balls and silicon carbide plates. China once used table tennis balls as a “small ball" to drive diplomacy. Kegu can also use grinding balls to “roll" cooperation with partners—and even international collaboration. Inside those small grinding balls lies Kegu’s spirit of “opening markets and going global."

As 5G communications, AI computing, new energy vehicles, and other high-end manufacturing sectors demand ever-higher performance from electronic components, traditional alumina ceramics and silicon carbide ceramics each have their own strengths in different applications. With its high thermal conductivity and excellent mechanical strength, silicon carbide has shown unique value in high‑end, performance‑driven fields, forming a healthy complement to alumina.

Silicon carbide plates are commonly made to a thickness of 3mm. A customer asked us at the exhibition: can you make 0.3mm plates? A tenfold gap – it is a challenge, but also a clear direction. At that moment, I truly realized: market demand is already ahead, and Kegu must accelerate innovation, pushing towards thinner, higher‑performance territory.

I am grateful to Kegu for leading me into the magnificent world of ceramic materials. I am grateful to SUST for planting the seed of a dream and an everlasting bond in my life.

In the boundless field of advanced ceramics, SUST alumni have never been absent. And Kegu people will continue to take root, innovate, and go further in the silicon carbide industry.

If you have any technical questions or custom requirements regarding silicon carbide, please feel free to contact us.

This article is dedicated to all SUST alumni and Kegu people—wherever you are, your alma mater will always be a harbor for your spirit, and the road of ceramics will always be the direction of your endeavor.
