Corrosion Resistance
Based on measured comparative data, the SSiC rod/tube exhibits an annual corrosion weight loss of <0.2 mg/cm²/yr in the following aggressive corrosive media (highest corrosion resistance level):
  • 98% sulfuric acid, 53% hydrofluoric acid, 85% phosphoric acid, 70% nitric acid, 25% hydrochloric acid
  • 50% sodium hydroxide, 45% potassium hydroxide
  • 10% hydrofluoric acid + nitric acid mixed solution
Comparative advantage: In strong alkali (50% NaOH) and hydrofluoric acid (53% HF) environments, reaction-bonded SiC and alumina show corrosion losses >1000 mg/cm²/yr (failure within days), whereas SSiC exhibits virtually no corrosion and can be used for long periods.
