|---|---|---|---|
Pressureless sintered silicon carbide (SiC) grinding balls are precision ceramic grinding media manufactured by sintering nano- or submicron SiC powders in a non-oxidising atmosphere at high temperatures. The 10–11 mm size falls into the optimal range for drum (rolling) ball mills, offering an excellent combination of high hardness and moderate density.
Key Size Applications:
Pressureless sintering involves submicron β-SiC powder with sintering aids (0.3–3.0 wt% boron and 0.1–1.0 wt% carbon), sintered at 2020–2080°C in inert atmosphere. For 10–11 mm balls, cold isostatic pressing (CIP) is used to create spherical blanks, which are then precision-machined and sintered to ensure high sphericity and uniform density.

| Consideration | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Equipment Match | Drum (rolling) ball mills |
| Material to be Ground | Hard powders (Mohs ≥7) |
| Purity Requirements | Products requiring ≥99.5% purity |
| Impact Severity | Avoid extremely high impact conditions |
| Operating Temperature | Room temperature up to 1300°C |
Important Note: Although SiC is extremely hard, its fracture toughness is relatively low (3–5 MPa·m¹⁄²). Under extremely high-speed collisions or hard impacts, there is a risk of breakage. Optimize rotational speed and ball charge to avoid excessive inter-ball impact.
Manufactured according to Chinese national standards (GB/T 2480-2022, GB/T 23538-2023) and international standards including ASTM C1327 for Vickers hardness testing.
